Frequently-Asked Questions

How should we get our project to you?

We are a home-based business in the Dayton area. Projects can either be dropped off by appointment,  or shipped to us. Please call us with your questions and/or to set up an appointment. We meet customers on our covered front porch for drop off.

What are the advantages of digital media compared to film or videotapes?

Videotapes begin to degrade in just a few years. Although properly-stored films can last for decades, they are difficult to view. Digital files last indefinitely and can be transferred or duplicated easily.  DVDs are expected to last 100+ years and won't be accidentally erased or corrupted. Vintage silent family films can now be viewed with no projector noise!

Can you transfer 8mm films to a format that I can edit myself?

Yes, the DVDs and thumb drives are not copy-protected, so files can be imported to any device that has video editing software.

How long will the digital conversion process take?

Most projects are completed in 1-2 weeks, unless we are busy with many orders. If you have an urgent deadline, call ahead to schedule your project. Order early for holidays.

What if I don't know what is on the film or videotapes?

We will be happy to create a project with numbered segments. If you would like us to edit your digitized project to reorder segments or delete portions, the cost will be based on editing time. Please call for a free consultation about this option.

What if I don't know the length of the films or tapes?

We will be happy to help you estimate the length of your film. Just give us a call. For videotapes, we time them and charge based on the actual length, rounded up to full hours. For that reason, we allow customers to prepay just 50% of the estimated cost. The final payment will based on actual  length.

Do you add music to silent film?

Yes, we add royalty-free easy-listening instrumental music to silent film projects. There is no additional fee for this service.

Will I get my films and other materials back with the DVDs or thumb drives?

Yes. We will return all materials to you. Also, we will keep a back-up copy for 30 days in case you would like additional copies after you view your completed project.

Can we see a sample before we decide to do a film-transfer project?

Yes, send us one 3-inch reel of 8mm film or one videotape. We will transfer the film or up to 10 minutes of video and return your project by mail within about a week. The cost  is just $10 for a DVD sample, $15 for a  thumb drive, or $20 for both.

What should I do if my question is not listed here?

Give us a call between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. EST at 937-643-9679, any day of the week.  If we don't answer, please leave a message that includes your name, number, and a good time to return your call. We can usually call back without a few hours (longer on weekends).
